Piper Dominguez, Piper Dominguez Coaching and Wine Cartel

Title: Owner of Piper Dominguez Coaching, and Co-Owner of Wine Cartel

Location: Santa Monica, California

Years in Industry:

I have been in and around the wine industry for the last 15 years or so, working in tasting rooms, festivals and being support to my husband, Michael Dominguez, who has a much more direct role in the beverage/alcohol space. Due to his role, I have been fortunate to join several supplier trips, further adding to my knowledge of the industry and getting an inside view of wine operations and production. While I have always had an appreciation and interest in wine, my role has been more of an observer of the intricacies of the wine world and the relationship between wine, culture and wellbeing from an industry standpoint and an outside view.

In addition, in 2019 Michael and I co-founded Wine Cartel with the idea of bringing a more holistic approach to wine consulting by not only offering vine to bottle services but also mindset and lifestyle coaching.  I have since branched out on my own to broaden my client base and support more people to shift their relationship with themselves, business and life, both in and out of the industry.

My Top Three Challenges to Wellness:

  1. Taking space for myself. With two kids, a husband and my own business, my plate is full. I have had to learn what it means to make myself a priority and ask for what I need.

  2. Not pushing to exhaustion but learning to slow down, have more compassion for myself and really listening to what my body and mind require for better wellness.

  3. People pleasing to belong instead of being okay with doing things differently. My wellness is my responsibility and what works for me may not work for someone else and that is okay. Accepting that there are parts of my journey where I might have to do it alone, that what I choose might push against others’ beliefs or that might not fit the “norm,” can be uncomfortable if I am out of integrity with what I am choosing.

How I Keep It Together to Stay Well:

I have always been an athlete, so exercise is essential. I schedule my workouts into my calendar as an appointment for myself. This helps make it a priority so I stay accountable. I also invest in myself by working with a coach. This is a foundational piece for my wellness and my business so that my subconscious works for me and not the other way around. Having clear boundaries and being able to communicate those clearly is also key. I have a spiritual practice that I am committed to daily as a way to set the tone for my day and come back to when life gets messy. Establishing and practicing good self-care is so important in my life to balance wellness. This looks like nourishing myself well, being in nature, taking alone time, being more compassionate and kind to myself and doing something creative every day.

What Inspires Me:

Beauty, especially in nature. My kiddos and my husband. My clients and the work that I get to do with them.

A Quote I Love:

There are so many I love… “Let the beauty of what you love be what you do.” - Rumi
