Announcing Two New Developments to Honor the ABG Community

This week we’d like to share some information about two new developments at ABG, that arise directly from your feedback to the Community check-in survey a few months ago. Beck and I are excited about both of these things, mainly because they address topics and interests that you all have expressed.

First we’d like to introduce a specific way for you to support the efforts at ABG, namely through branded merchandise like reusable water bottles, face masks and an indestructible cotton tote bag. Beck and San Francisco designer Ayca Kilicoglu, have been working hard to capture just the right tone for supplies that serve the double purpose of providing you with tools for your practice as well as underwriting the nuts and bolts of ABG’s operations.

What I love most about this ABG line are the practical reminders they bring into our homes – to hydrate, to be more sustainable, and to protect ourselves and the people we encounter.

This week's image at the top is a sneak peek preview. Please stay tuned for details on pre-ordering, and keep these items in mind as we head toward holiday gift-giving.

The second development we’d like to share has to do with a series of monthly webinars we’re putting together, that feature Community members and friends discussing themes that matter to this audience. Our first theme is “Parenting During a Pandemic,” and we’re looking forward to touching on some of the most pressing (and frankly stressful) challenges this year and the different approaches we’re taking to manage them.

Here are ABG friends and colleagues who will be sharing their thoughts:

  • Jee Park, Senior Vice President, Magrino PR (New York)

  • Ashley Trout, founder of Vital Wines and owner/winemaker at Brook and Bull Cellars (Washington state)

  • Linsey Gallagher, President and CEO, Visit Napa Valley (California)

  • Bruno Almeida, wine and spirits educator, Portuguese wine advocate and wine director/sommelier (New York)

  • Monique Soltani, founder and host, Wine Oh TV (California)

Head over to this Eventbrite page to sign up. We look forward very much to seeing you there.

This year has given us tough pill after tough pill to swallow. We’re trying to wrap it up with ways that are mindful and helpful for you, for us and for the whole Community. We hope you’ll join us in whatever way makes sense.

Namaste,
Cathy

Cathy Corison, Winemaker and Co-Founder at Corison Winery, Napa Valley (USA)

Years In Industry:

45 (!). I arrived in the Napa Valley in June of 1975, two days after graduating from Pomona College with a degree in Biology, with a vague notion that I wanted to make world-class wine. I took a brief detour by UC Davis to earn a Master’s degree in Enology and have been making wine ever since, first for other people, including Chappellet Vineyard for a decade and later for myself, starting with the 1987 vintage.

My Biggest Challenge To Wellness:

Taking the time it takes to keep well and sane, as I find myself closer to 70 than 60 years old. I should spend upwards of three hours a day, which is difficult given that I grow the grapes, make the wine and run the winery. (I used to sell the wine but have a lot of competent help with that these days.) It takes at least that long - three hours - to dowse my supplements, meditate, do some yoga, get aerobic exercise and apply the sunscreen.

How I Keep It Together To Stay Well:

I eat whole, organic foods with a glass or two of red wine every day. I meditate most days, do yoga several times a week, and ride my bike (40 minutes round trip) though the vineyards to work. I see a physical therapist/healer a couple times a month. Ten years ago she cobbled me back together, without surgery, when a cyst at L4/L5 in my spine shut me down. The cyst was a bit like a callous, forming in response to misalignment. Using several modalities (classic physical therapy, herbs, energy work, Chinese medicine, homeopathy) she slowly straightened me out, providing space for the cyst. We’re hoping the cyst has dissolved by now as it no longer serves a function. Now she keeps me tuned up.

I also see an acupuncturist when I need it and regular massage is key. Having never been a great sleeper, I’ve worked very hard for several years now to get more and better sleep. Reading Why We Sleep by Matthew Walker changed my life. Sleep affects all aspects of our life including health. I go to bed earlier, giving myself more sleep opportunity, read every night until I fall asleep three times, take sleep-inducing herbs, end all screen time an hour before bed, block out light and sounds and I’m finally addressing sleep apnea.
